Actually heard about a special edition of the game coming to PC that would ship on a Blu-Ray disc. Glad I've got my Blu-Ray drive ready to go.

I wish 3D Realms would have spent a little more time with this game graphically. It didn't need a complete overhaul, but new technology has already been developed for the BUILD engine (the engine that Duke3D runs on), by it's original creator no less, called Polymost to render the environments into true polygons, allowing for the use of OpenGL and Direct3D rendering. It is something that was done 2-4 years ago (it's been awhile anyway). Anyway, this would have meant higher resolutions, smooth...

I wouldn't say the 360 is weak, it's actually quite powerful, but using DVD as the disc format was a mistake. They should have either waited a few months and included HD-DVD as their disc format of choice (that format might have succeeded because of it, but Microsoft never really wanted it to have any real success anyway), or developed some sort of proprietary, higher capacity disc based off of the red laser/DVD format. A proprietary DVD with 3 or 4 layers in it probably would have been enoug...

This is one of the sad facts about multi-platform games, you have to take into account the lowest common denominator, and in this case it is the 360's DVD drive and lack of a standard and affordable hard drive. Crippling a game in this way just isn't fair to gamers. It is obvious that iD need the space, they are pioneers in game development. If they can't fit their entire vision on two discs, nobody could. Not only that, but because of the security features and other proprietary microsoft mum...

Well, they said remake not port, which would mean it would be more like what the resident evil remake was like on the gamecube. Personally, RE2 was a great game, but do we need a remake? Especially on the Wii. PS3, Xbox 360 or PC I could see, but why go for something that has no graphical horsepower? Hell, they should just port it if they want to do that, why was time making new assets for that game if it's just going to be on the Wii.

Any remake of a game should come out on the ...

Well, by most accounts HD-DVD should have been able to win, not because the players were that much cheaper to make and sell but the fact that the discs SHOULD have been cheaper to sell and cost less to the end user to buy then a blu-ray discs. Now, I did say SHOULD have been. HD-DVDs were cheaper to make, so they should have been cheaper to sell. However, they weren't. They cost the exact same as Blu-Ray discs at retail and that is probably what contributed the most. People usually go with wh...

Well, it's nice they add those new features, they seem fairly neat, but I was really hoping for some news on the graphics. Looks like they didn't give the game much of a face lift in that department. All they really needed to do was take all the old 3D models they made for all the bad guys (yep, that's how they made them before they make the sprites) and re-render the sprites out at a higher resolution. Really, there's no real work involved there other then waiting. Making new textures and st...

It's a great card, but the heat output is just so high, you pretty much have to water cool it, but full cover blocks for them cost over 150 dollars right now, ouch. $550-600 plus GPU block + pump + rad = close to a grand to properly cool this card down.

Oh, this game dwindled away much of my youth, so much fun. Can't wait for this release.

Personally, I kinda would have rather have her costume look more like the version off of Batman returns, but I'll take the big boobs instead, no complaints there.

Damn, now that is expensive for a graphics card. Even if it does cost lots to make one of those GPUs, it's still more money then most are willing to spend. The war is on.

Hell, even if Nintendo still drops the ball and does not offer some sort of HDD or other mass storage solution, Activision should go out and release something of their own with the game. A special 4 or 8 gig USB stick would be a great idea, or a special SD card (they go up to 4 gigs. Do SDHC cards work, they go up to 16 gigs I think?), with some content already included on it to warrant it's purchase. That would be a nice solution. I'm sure you would be hard pressed to fill that up.

Hopefully, we'll get to see some reviews of both of the two big GPU top tier cards a few days before they come out. I've been eyeing both of them for the new PC I've been building. If the GTX 280 blows ATI's offering out of the water and is priced appropriately, then I'll go Nvidia and get a 790i motherboard (and have to shell out for DDR3 ram, damn). If it is only like 20-30 percent more powerful then ATI's 4870 and costs twice as much, well hello x48 with DDR2. Too bad the dual GPU cards ar...

I have to agree, graphics cards do evolve and change too fast, though honestly this last round of cards wasn't so bad (a year and 1/2 before they released some true next generation hardware isn't bad really), the only real problem was the bad naming schemes that were used, by both companies. The 9800 GTX should have been called an 8900 GTX, since it was only a slightly improved, cost reduced version of the card. Same with the 3800 series of cards, they were just cost reduced and improved ver...

Wow, I thought it would be a lot sooner for the dual chip card. Making me wait until august. Oh well, gives more time to compare the new ATI chips to the new Nvidia ones an make an informed choice.

It's all marketing. They called it a 9800 GTX just to confuse a few people into buying it. Not that it's a bad card, but all it is is basically a cost reduced version of the 8800GTX (actually, more like an improved version of the newer 8800 GTS that performs like an 8800 GTX). Call it a 9800 GTX and people think it's a generation ahead of their last card an go out and buy it. Informed people won't, but others will.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was a bad idea to get a 9800 GTX (o...

I have a bad feeling with this version just like with number 3. It will be a good game, but not as great as it could be. It's the same problem Guitar Hero III had: not enough development time. Neversoft had, what, less then a year to go and make that game. Sure, GHIII is fun and all, but it's nowhere near as decent a game as it could have been. They did a great and commendable job for a game made in less then a year from scratch, to that I give them credit, but the visuals and the note patter...

Good interview. I'm still with the camp that thinks that this game will probably be a disaster, even if the fighting mechanics are top notch, simply because it is a meshing of an M-Rated franchise (Mortal Kombat, duh) with a mostly teen rated franchise, and you have to stick with the lowest common denominator, that being the Teen rating. Mortal Kombat fans are going to be wanting to do the fatalities, to spill some blood, etc... etc... and they probably will not get the chance to do it. It me...

Well, this is great. I never thought Doom 3 was a bad game, it just wasn't very innovative, other then it's graphics for the time, of course. Hopefully, iD have learned from that game and revitalize the gameplay, bring it to more modern specs. Add a new weapon system maybe, upgradeable weapons, 4 player co-op (gotta have 4 player coop), bring back some classic baddies and a whole load of new baddies, could be a fun game. They really need to upgrade the gameplay, that is the main point. Graphi...

That is a huge heatsink on that stick. It'll block any side by side memory slots on your motherboard. And, it is dual air and liquid cooling. That's kind of neat. Still, it's much more cost effective to go with really good DDR2 RAM then to even attempt to use DDR3. You can still get X48 motherboards with DDR2 (and there are DDR3 versions of course), but for the 790i's you need to go with DDR3.

Hopefully as manufacturing ramps up DDR3 will start to come down. Right now, similar ...
